Richard III TalkTime: 6:00 pm
FREE talk by author and historian Toni Mount in the historic Guildhall courtroom
Guildhall Courtroom, Kent, CT139AH
Sat 13th January 2024
Richard III, the King of Controversy and his visit to Sandwich in January 1484.
This illustrated talk will take a brief look at the life of Richard before he became king in the summer of 1483, the role he played as right-hand-man to his brother, King Edward IV, during the Wars of the Roses and, of course, explore the mystery of those Princes in the Tower. Richard made a royal visit to Sandwich for a few days between 13th-17th January 1484 to consult with the Mayor and the event was celebrated with a feast. What happened to the king after that is also a topic of this talk, ending with his rediscovery as ‘the King in the Car Park’ in Leicester.
